Corby Borough Council
The Charter Field would have been a familiar landmark to anyone from Corby Old Village that served in World War I, especially as they would have attended the 1902 Corbei Pole Fair celebrations. The Pole Fair is traditionally held on The Charter Field every 20 years and is documented from 1862 until the latest one held in 2002.
It is one of a few areas that has remained little changed through the upheavals of Corby's transformation from village to large industrial town and is next to the village cemetery that contains the grave of the only soldier from Corby's World War I casualties who was returned home to be buried in their local cemetery. The Charter Field is also the closest open space to the World War I Cenotaph.
The Charter Field does have a small play area but is mainly used as public open space.
