Newland Parish Council
The Recreation Ground was bought on behalf of the parish of Newland in 1933. At that time there was a swimming pool fed by local stream water, but this was filled in many years ago.
The ground's connection to WWI is that it iis overlooked by the house in which Francis Miles VC was born - he was awarded the VC for action on 23 October 1918. When his commemorative paving slab is received from the Govt. it will be placed in the recreation ground, which will become a memorial to him and his bravery.
In 2012 new play equipment was installed courtesy of a grant from the National Lottery and those facilities are now well used. The Management Committee have secured further grant funding to install shower and toilet facilities in the pavilion which will encourage sports teams back.
