Taunton Deane Borough Council
The Orchard which used to form part of the adjacent allotments was originally conveyed to the Council by Henry Gribble Turner, with the restrictive covenant that it only be used for food production. Mr Turner was concerned about food shortages during World War I and wished to provide somewhere where local people could grow their own.
Today the orchard contains over 120 trees with many old varieties of apple trees including Dabinett and Kingston Black. In addition to the apple trees are damson, quinces, meddlers, sweet chestnut, pears and plums all planted by the longstanding and pro-active friends group.
