Braintree District Council
Halstead Public Gardens are formally laid out, landscaped in a Victorian fashion and incorporating a variety of borders and traditional park features.
The gardens are an integral part of the town's Remembrance Day Parade and Service, containing a war memorial, and have been utilised to conduct further events commemorating the centenary. The gardens were designed by TW Sanders FRHS FNAGA and the design incorporated various trees, shrubs, flower borders along with shelters, benches, a bandstand, pond and a Victorian drinking fountain.
The park contains a range of well preserved features from the early days and it fulfills an important role as a major open space with easy access from the town. It is highly valued by the community as an attractive open space and a link to the past. There is also a World War II memorial located within the gardens. Events are regularly held in the park and include Music in the Park, Tai Chi, Christmas Torch Light Procession and Carols. The Park has achieved both Green Flag Award and Green Heritage Accreditation.
