Government consultation on sports strategy

Fields in Trust response to new consultation on sports strategy

On 4 August, the Government opened a consultation on a new strategy for sport. It will close on the 2 October 2015.

Fields in Trust's Chief Executive, Helen Griffiths welcomes the consultation:

‘A new strategy for sport is timely as obesity levels continue to rise, activity levels decline and our parks and playing fields face ever increasing budget cuts. The Minister’s commitment to cross departmental working is encouraging and will be fundamental to delivering a real and lasting change. We believe that prioritising places to play should be a foundation stone of any strategy to get the nation more active and hope that protecting the future of outdoor recreational spaces is one of the outcomes of this review.’

The consultation invites you to share your views on the following ten themes:

  • Participation
  • Physical activity
  • Children and young people
  • Financial sustainability
  • Coaching, workforce and good governance
  • Elite and professional sport
  • Infrastructure
  • Fairness and equality
  • Safety and wellbeing
  • International influence and major sporting events
