Queens Gardens, formerly Rydal Gardens, is home to a bronze memorial statue of a World War I soldier created by John Cassidy, officially unveiled on 11 November 1922. In 1964 the statue was relocated from the front of the original town hall which was demolished in the same year and re-positioned within Queens Gardens where it remains.
The formal gardens are laid to lawn and planted beds, surrounded by footpaths, intersected by bench seating areas which surround the gardens. The bronze statue stands as a memorial to the First World War. The panel depicts returning servicemen and nurses. The plaques commemorate 174 dead from World War I, 38 from World War II and one from the Korean War.
