The Lower Birks of Aberfeldy is a countryside site with pathways passing through broad-leaved woodland and along the Moness Burn. The entrance to the Lower Birks is through a large, red sandstone World War I memorial arch which was recently refurbished and is sited a few metres away from a main thoroughfare in Aberfeldy. The paths are largely even and accessible to most user groups, bridges and viewpoints facilitate crossing the Moness Burn and old mill lade and the site is used by both locals and tourists principally for walking. The paths through the Lower Birks connects the Town Center to residential areas at Burn's Brae and Crieff Road and provides a useful, scenic and safe route option for many local people.
Featuring as a "Big Tree Country" site, the area is actively promoted to tourists as one of the many iconic tree sites in Perth and Kinross. The Lower Birks is also undergoing arboricultural improvements and a local community group are currently sourcing funding for a project which will provide seating, enhance the pathway surface and improve the amenity of the site.
