The land now occupied by Memorial park lies within central Herne Bay. The land was once marshy and underdeveloped. Following the armistice in 1918 a local committee met and proposed a new park for Herne Bay to commemorate the men that had lost their lives in the First World War.
A front page announcement in the local press at the time stated: "It is proposed that the War Memorial at Herne Bay should take the form of a public park in which will be erected a cenotaph recording the names of the men of the town who gave their lives for their country in the Great War". Plans were developed for the Park which included lakes, tennis courts and gardens.
The council has invested in improvements to the park after consultation to deliver a master plan. The park has entered South East in Bloom with a track record of success with community support.
