71 Great War dead from Wyke are recorded on our various memorial plaques. A fund was started for a War Memorial following the First World War but not enough was raised. The money was used to fund an old folk treat for some years.
The Wyke Village Society's intention is to locate a new memorial to commemorate and record the fallen from all conflicts on the Village Green, a record and form that will be more inclusive and accessible to all.
If successful the designation of the village green to become a Centenary Field will enable the village society and local community to reach a major milestone in their process to recognise and finally physically mark the residents lost at the point of the Centenary of the first major conflict to affect the area allowing them to proceed toward creating the fully inclusive War Memorial and to secure the green for all as recreational space in perpetuity.
