FIT Launches Fantastic New Insurance Scheme for Members!

Newly Protected Field!

FIT are delighted to announce that the playing field in Cam, Gloucestershire is now a protected site following successful negotiations with Gloucestershire Council. The field is a great local facility with a wide range of activities for all age groups including a skate park and climbing boulders as well as hosting a popular annual music festival. The council are now hoping to improve the facilities by adding new changing rooms and an all-weather surface and even have plans to install a fire pit!’Read more.  

Olympomania

The conflicting interests of government are causing consternation in some parts of the world - the continued sale of playing fields seems to run absolutely counter to the drive to improve participation in sport as part of the 2012 Olympics! Read more.  

Bradford Fields Saved from Development  

Last week Bradford Council made the welcome announcement that Horsfall Playing Fields would not be sold off for housing - a great example of how FIT protection really does make a difference! Read more.

Cricket Field Saved from Housing Development  

Thanks in part to funds from Fields in Trust, Bristol YMCA are celebrating the official purchase of their 130 year old cricket ground. Plans were in place to sell the ground for a housing development but, will the help of a community fundraising drive, the pitch is now safe. Read more here.  

New FIT Field in Bristol

We're pleased to announce that, after much dotting of I's and crossing of T's, Pen Park in Bristol has now been permanently protected. As well as ensuring its future recreational use, Bristol City Council have also established a £150k permanent endowment fund for the ongoing management of the site which will be of great benefit to the local community.

Campaigning for Playing Fields

Boris Johnson has confirmed his committment to protecting playing fields with the announcement in Times that he would include Labour MP Kate Hoey on his new team if elected as London Mayor.

Another Flagship Initiative?

The government's announcement of a new initiative to safeguard children's playgrounds with an investment of £225million was undermined by the revelation that 19 school playing fields were sold in 2007. Read more about the issue and FIT's involvement in the Observer.
