The area is a public open space within a large housing development. In 1995 it was planted with a variety of trees, in memory of those from the parish of Castle Donington who lost their lives in the two World Wars. The Parish Council recognised this project and worked with a local builder to source returned sandstone from the castle of Castle Donington which, along with the dedication plaque, enhances this open space as a memorial area.
