Churchill Playing Fields covers an area of approximately 21.5 acres, bounded by the River Tame to the North and West. The playing pitches at Churchill represent the 3rd largest combination of playing surfaces in Oldham. Saddleworth is located in the Pennines and availability of flat open land for sporting facilities is severely limited. Churchill is the principal site for grass pitches in the east of the borough and is strategically important. The local District Partnership has approved plans to improve the drainage and layout of the site during 2011/12. The protection of the site for future generations through the QEII Fields Challenge as is seen as another step towards achieving the overall vision for Churchill - as a hub of multi sport and community health and wellbeing in Saddleworth and Lees.
