Coalville Park was formally opened in March 1899 and commemorated by an inscription on the central obelisk. The park was developed in Victorian style and largely retains its original layout of footpaths and shrubberies to the outside and grass with flower beds to the centre with the addition of the play areas and courts at a later date. The park offers a wide variety of facilities providing a community hub including a community garden inclusive for people of all ages and abilities.
In 2014 a Peace Garden was created in the park as an area for reflection to commemorate the two World Wars. The garden was designed and implemented working with local historian Michael Kendrick and The Royal British Legion and officially opened on 7th November 2015. The space includes formal planting, metalwork features, mosaics and seating.
