Centenary Park was created on a former allotment site after the land was returned to the Council following the creation of the Western Relief Road. Working with the local community and a number of organisations, more than £250,000 was raised to fund the new facilities. The name of the park was chosen by pupils at Newbold Riverside Academy to reflect the centenary commemorations of World War I. The park includes a MUGA, children's playground, sensory garden, outdoor gym equipment, butterfly bank, an orchard and a picnic area.
The park was featured in Fields in Trust research in 2016 into the impact of creation of a new park which found it resulted in local residents feeling healthier, happier and becoming more active. The findings demonstrated the wider value of parks, beyond leisure and recreation, including their contribution to comprehensive local authority agendas, such as promoting healthy lifestyles and tackling social exclusion.
