Old School Green is a well-kept, grassed open space in the centre of the village surrounded by decorative iron railings and planted with a few ornamental trees.
There is a gate at the south-west corner which opens onto a block paver path bordered by ornamental hedges leading to the village war memorial stone with the inscriptions of the names of the fallen in conflicts, including 31 names from World War I. An inscription at the top reads: “In grateful memory of those from Lytchett Matravers who gave their lives in the service of their country”.
Occasional peaceful community events which are appropriate for an area which also accommodates the war memorial are encouraged. Ball games and dog walking are discouraged in favour of using the recreation ground, which is located very close by.
