FIELDS WE PROTECT

This Centenary Field is the new bowling green at the Recreation Ground adjacent to St. Lawrence Parish Church. Working with the local community it was identified that there was a need for a new bowling green at St. Lawrence Rec, and work took place to provide a new green, pavilion and small car park. There is a Cross Memorial in the churchyard of St. Lawrence, adjacent to the new green, which contains the 72 names of those who gave their lives in WWI. It was felt that it would be fitting and appropriate to nominate the green to create a link between the two sites, which will become a well-used community facility, but also allow for quiet contemplation of those who gave their lives in the Great War.
