We all need green space, for people, for places, for the planet. Yet parks continue to be under threat. Together we can protect our much-loved parks and green spaces, forever.
Green spaces are good, and they do good. As places for us to move, breathe, run and play; they are proven to help us stay physically and mentally well. Green spaces unite communities, help combat loneliness and keep us connected to the natural world.
Parks and green spaces also help tackle climate change and support our planet; improving water quality; reducing storm flooding; improving air quality; reducing urban temperatures; promoting active transport, capturing carbon and boosting biodiversity.
Even before the pandemic, two-thirds of us spent time in a green space at least once a week, and parks remain important as we recover. Despite this, UK parks have no statutory protection and are under increasing threat.
We have been championing and legally protecting green space since 1925. We understand that local authorities have tough funding decisions to make, and there is a temptation for cash-strapped councils to irreversibly auction off its green space assets: to generate immediate income and remove a longer-term maintenance liability.
We believe losing parks will have a damaging impact on the nation's health and reduce our ability to take climate action on our doorstep - so we need to do more, and faster, to tackle the rapid loss of our vital urban green spaces.
We can't do this alone. We need your help today, to ensure our parks and green spaces exist tomorrow.
Do you believe everyone should have access to a green space within a ten-minute walk of home? If so, become a park champion!
