Litter can blight green spaces, and although landowners will empty litter bins on a regular basis, a spell of warm weather when families and friends enjoy picnics in the open air can result in overflowing bins. The solution is for everyone to take their litter home with them but if you are concerned about litter on your local park or green space please contact the landowner. If the park has a Friends group then they may organise litter picks which park users can get involved with.

Whenever you are taking part in a litter pick, make sure you take care of what you are picking up. National charities Keep Britain Tidy, Keep Scotland Beautiful, Keep Wales Tidy and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful can all offer advice and often run campaigns encouraging group litter picks.
